We all know that Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is the richest Cricket board in the world. Even International Cricket Council (ICC) who control the World Cricket is far behind then BCCI in terms of Revenue. BCCI is not depended on Indian Govt for financial support. According to Outlook Magazine Currently BCCI has the net worth of More than 13000 Crores. The main sources of their revenue are 1.Media rights, 2.Title Sponsorship, 3.Official Team Sponsor, 4.Kit Sponsorship, 5. Indian Premier League (IPL) Revenues, 6. Stadium Ticket Revenue etc.
Now the thing is due to the Coronavirus outbreak all the major sports events got postponed including the Star studded IPL. The scheduled date of starting the 13th edition of IPL was 29th March 2020, but suddenly world got effected by Novel Coronavirus and most developed countries like USA, Italy, China could not found any proper solution. When Indian Govt found some Covid-19 cases in the country and The Govt suspended all Visas till 15th April. So it was clear that no foreign player will be available till that date, but BCCI know that without foreign players it is impossible to arrange this major sport event. Now BCCI thining all the alternatives positively to arrange it anyhow.
So the major point is if the tournament will get cancelled the BCCI will have to face major financial loss. The losses should be like
1. According to a report BCCI will loose USD 200-300 Million if the tournament will happen in empty gallery, but if it will totally cancelled for this edition then the lose amount will be USD 700-1000 Million.
2. If the Tournament will happen in empty stadium, than the BCCI need to pay to all the team owners of an extra 15-30 Crores according to their last few year's average Ticket selling revenue.
So According to me although it is a major event in the world and also an way of entertainment for the Indian people but this is not the right time to arrange such kind of events because Life is more precious than Sports.
